Americans would rather reduce oil and gas exploration than ‘drill, baby, drill’

A new poll finds that a clear majority of Americans say oil and natural gas drilling should be curtailed or maintained at current level. But opinions were divided along partisan lines.

A large majority of Americans say drilling for oil and natural gas off the coasts and on public lands should decrease or remain at current levels, a viewpoint at odds with the expansion promoted by President Trump as part of his “energy dominance” agenda.

In a nationwide public opinion poll by The Washington Post and the Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF), more than eight in 10 people said drilling in the United States should “decrease” or “stay as is.”

Just over half, 51 percent, said energy exploration should be reduced on federal lands, and 53 percent said it should be reduced offshore. Another 32 percent said it should stay as is on both federal lands and waters.

Less than 15 percent support an increase in drilling on public lands or at sea.

way, yet a minority shape, enact and implement policy that directly conflicts with majority opinion. Add to that the fact that the majority are more highly educated not to mention open-minded and thoughtful. The 2 senators per State and electoral college are artifacts of a no longer relevant past. They essentially amount to modern day taxation without representation and should be consigned to the trash can.

but we damn well expect and better have the oil and gas we consume for our SUVs and monster pickup trucks, and for keeping our living spaces within one degree of perfect year round
