A large majority of Americans say drilling for oil and natural gas off the coasts and on public lands should decrease or remain at current levels, a viewpoint at odds with the expansion promoted by President Trump as part of his energy dominance agenda.
In a nationwide public opinion poll by The Washington Post and the Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF), more than eight in 10 people said drilling in the United States should decrease or stay as is.
Just over half, 51 percent, said energy exploration should be reduced on federal lands, and 53 percent said it should be reduced offshore. Another 32 percent said it should stay as is on both federal lands and waters.
Less than 15 percent support an increase in drilling on public lands or at sea.

(15,646 posts)way, yet a minority shape, enact and implement policy that directly conflicts with majority opinion. Add to that the fact that the majority are more highly educated not to mention open-minded and thoughtful. The 2 senators per State and electoral college are artifacts of a no longer relevant past. They essentially amount to modern day taxation without representation and should be consigned to the trash can.
