Senior Liberal MP Craig Kelly has appeared on UK breakfast television to defend Prime Minister Scott Morrison's bushfire response, only to be slammed by presenters as "extraordinary". The MP has embarked on a media blitz in recent days with multiple British organisations including the BBC where he has denied any link between climate change and Australia's droughts or bushfires. Mr Kelly was asked on the Good Morning Britain breakfast program today to justify Mr Morrison's controversial decision to fly to Hawaii on a pre-organised family holiday while the nation faced hundreds of bushfire emergencies.

"One thing you have to understand (is) our fire regime and our firefighting regime – it is state based. We have separate state firefighting forces, like we have separate state police forces," Mr Kelly told hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid. "The ultimate responsibility for fighting fires is the state premiers and the state emergency services ministers."

An outraged Morgan hit back, describing the Prime Minister's response to the disaster as a "dereliction of his duty as leader of Australia". "The truth is, he was absent when the fires were burning. Scott Morrison thought the right response to these fires erupting in Australia was to go lie on the beach in Hawaii," the host said.
