http://www.windpowermonthly.com/news/1158013/wind-farm-withstood-Hurricane-Sandy/Three of the Jersey Atlantic projects five 1.5MW GE SLE turbines were operating again by Friday, said a spokeswoman for Atlantic County Utilities Authority (ACUA).
"The remaining two turbines should be up and running in the next few days," ACUAs Amy Cook-Menzel told Windpower Monthly. The project, operated by Infigen Energy, is at ACUAs wastewater treatment plant a few miles from the shore.
Matthew McGowan, Infigens asset management and development director, described the turbines as in "good shape".
High water levels may have caused some difficulties with data relay from the substations on site and with the electrical connections, said Infigen.

(33,525 posts)...were it not for stupid people trying to destroy the world's largest, by far, source of climate change gas free energy.
Thanks, Pal, for cheering on the replacement of clean nuclear power with dangerous fossil fuels. Did you notice that the April 2011 to April 2012 jump in dangerous fossil fuel waste dumping in the earth's atmosphere was the second highest ever recorded?
You know, last year, PSE&G installed a whole bunch of stupid toxic solar cells on telephone poles around here. There's one laying in a ditch on the end of my block, smashed into little pieces. There's actually lots of them around here lying in gutters
It's a First Solar job, toxic cadmium telluride based.
Will any of your fellow stupidos be coming here to sweep up the dust so no kids get cadmium or tellurium poisoning.
Nah. I don't think so.
How about all the carbon that will be released from the tens - maybe hundreds - of thousands of smashed trees here?
Couldn't care less.
I'm glad however that your stupid whirlygig survived and isn't leaching grease into the waters like so many other cases of those pieces of garbage. It would seem that your spectacular effort to fight climate change with wishful thinking has made the total destruction of the New Jersey shore, um, a little less unpleasant, because, predictably, you're giggling at a funeral.
We all are powerfully impressed about how your little solar and wind scam worked out.
My only regret is that Oyster Creek didn't leak any radiation, so you and your pals couldn't burn half a million tons of dangerous fossil fuel claiming that everyone in New Jersey would die - of course ignoring the real dead - similar to your giggling over Fukushima.
By the way, anti-nuke, did you and your pals ever find one person, who died from radiation at Fukushima or is the score still 20,000 dead from non-nuclear causes and zero from radiation?
Speaking only for myself, I hold the dumb fuck anti-nuke gas bags wholly and totally responsible for what is now befalling the human race.
Congratulations anti-nuke. Heckuva job
You must be very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very proud.

(24,262 posts)At Sun Nov 4, 2012, 10:03 AM an alert was sent on the following post:
Wow! We're saved. Of course, we might not have had this disaster...
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1127&pid=27298
REASON FOR ALERT:
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate. (See Community Standards.)
ALERTER'S COMMENTS:
This rant is just plain crazy. It adds nothing to the conversation, and takes away from the quality of the website. It's hate speech, crazy talk, maybe threats, but definitely not worthy of DU.
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Sun Nov 4, 2012, 10:08 AM, and the Jury voted 3-3 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT and said: No explanation given
Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT and said: That's NNadir for you. I think he eats Uranium for breakfast and posts always like this. I tended to vote for leave, but the personal attack 'stupidos' makes this hide-worthy. But he won't be changing, that's for sure. He radiates way too much.
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT and said: Whatever points this person was trying to make could have been made without being such a douche about it. I actually might have been interested in finding out more about this point of view if this person weren't so nasty. But as written, with the personal insults, this doesn't belong on DU.
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: It's an opinion! Leave it!
Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

(13,985 posts)Do you remember Chernobyl?? I lived through it, but MANY have died and continue to die as we speak!
I find your post very offensive as you show no respect at all to the Chernobyl victims.
Ignorance and denial don't change the reality.

(7,362 posts)When it comes to deaths, Nuclear is so far the safest. How many people dies in coal mines every year? How many people have died from the particulates that coal plants throw into the air?
It's a hell of a lot more than have ever died from nuclear energy.

(13,985 posts)"According to the Union of Concerned Scientists the number of excess cancer deaths worldwide (including all contaminated areas) is approximately 27,000 based on the same LNT. [131]
Another study critical of the Chernobyl Forum report was commissioned by Greenpeace, which asserts that "the most recently published figures indicate that in Belarus, Russia and Ukraine alone the accident could have resulted in an estimated 200,000 additional deaths in the period between 1990 and 2004."

But of course, mentioning Chernobyl doesn't help your cause, so why bother
I was just a lil girl when it happened, and I'm lucky I'm still alive.
You should be ashamed of yourself.

(13,985 posts)Have you read anything about Chernobyl alone? Do you know that in case of a nuclear disaster, the radiation stays and kills for decades, if not centuries??
Guess not.

(6,785 posts)Uranium is mined too. And the way people die in coal mines is a danger inherent in all mining operations, plus there are additional dangers when mining uranium that aren't present for coal.
darkangel218
(13,985 posts)Is not as dangereus as it used to be. Polution from coal mining does kill though. That being said, nuclear energy is by far more dangereus. Reports say deaths from Chernobyls radiation have reached hundred of thousands and continue to climb. If a disaster will happen, there is very lil you can do. Radiation can not ve contained, it travels through the atmosphere on thousand of miles.

(6,785 posts)Uranium mining is just as dangerous as coal.

(13,985 posts)It's something I am still working on. I had nightmares for years after Chernobyl. Sometimes I just start crying when I remember what happened.
Two days after the reactor disaster, the nurses came to my school and gave us iodine pills to help against the radiation. But only children got them, they didn't have enough for the adults. So many perished from tyroid cancer in the years after ... :'(

(5,722 posts)5 September 2005 | Geneva - A total of up to 4000 people could eventually die of radiation exposure from the Chernobyl nuclear power plant (NPP) accident nearly 20 years ago, an international team of more than 100 scientists has concluded.
As of mid-2005, however, fewer than 50 deaths had been directly attributed to radiation from the disaster, almost all being highly exposed rescue workers, many who died within months of the accident but others who died as late as 2004...

(33,982 posts)People were left behind, with Search and Rescue unable or unwilling to enter certain areas due to radiation, or the threat of radiation.
Some people didn't make it as a result of that. Not killed by the radiation directly, but indirectly.
So I wouldn't wave that flag too proudly, if I were you, even though I generally agree that nuclear is far cleaner and better than any fossil fuel.

(4,959 posts)NHK, Nov. 2: Japans Nuclear Regulation Authority has surveyed the countrys only operating nuclear power plant to determine whether a seam under the facility is an active fault. The authority says it may ask the Ohi plants operator Kansai Electric Power Company to suspend operations, depending on the survey results.
AP, Nov. 2: Japanese nuclear regulators inspected ground structures at the countrys only operating nuclear power plant Friday to examine if an existing fault line is active. The inspection will determine whether the Ohi plant in western Japan should close.
Kyodo, Nov. 2: It is one possibility that there will be some talks about reinvestigation during a meeting on Sunday in Tokyo to evaluate the results, Kunihiko Shimazaki said at a news conference after the one-day inspection, which was closely watched as the countrys sole operating nuclear plant could be asked to shutdown if the fault is judged as active.
Huh?
