Missing heat found in oceans, global warming has accelerated in past 15 years

The folks at Skeptical Science eat climate science for breakfast and really know their stuff. They have published a very interesting overview of a recent climate study by Balmaseda, Trenberth, and Källén (2013) that shows that warming hasn't slowed - in fact it's the opposite - and heat that was previously thought to be missin can be found in deep oceans. Here are the main points:...

How much will they have to rip out of AR5 now? Nothing, I suspect, since it's all too quaint. Just leave out this result, say it was beyond the deadline, and move on.

Meanwhile climate sensitivity is lowered and the tipping point is now closer than ever before (and, likely, given that the scientists are constantly adjusting it down, much closer than we think).

Methane hydrate seepage throughout the planet will increase as well. The frozen sinks are beginning to fail, and it will be obvious soon, humans have no chance of controlling emissions.

That leaves futile attempts at increasing stratospheric albedo through geo engineering. Soon we will find out the impossibility of accounting for all of the effects created in ecosystems, when we try to alter a single aspect. Everything from weather patterns to where to build a dam or plant a crop, to acid rain and acidic oceans, will be changing all parameters, of what we 'think' we know today.

I think my new 100 year forecast, is for eighty years.

Union of Concerned Scientists: Climate change carries serious consequences both for humans and for ecosystems. This is a crisis that will affect our food, our national security, our water, our ability to live where we choose, and other basic human needs. More info: https://realitydrop.org/#myths/72
