Chomsky: What about the future?
The great linguist and political thinker speaks to the future of humankind, a bleak one .. due to longterm environmental destruction, weaponry, and globalization ... very eloquently. And the question is, as he says, what are people doing about it? See:

It's interesting that he points out that it's not hard to see it. In fact, you have to make an effort not to see it. He also highlights the efforts of indigenous populations to preserve the environment and how they are faced with the corporate and political juggernauts behind resource extraction. This is not just a crime against people and environment but also impacts the entire global ecosystem and puts ALL large life forms in danger of extinction.
Also, mitigation and green efforts on the part of various individuals and groups are not being reported in any significant way, also interesting in light of the role of the hardline media in the grip of the corporate fascist rightwing. The USA and Canada are racing as fast as they can to destroy the environment, to extract every last trace of hydrocarbons from the earth. So we'll have a century where we maximize the use of fossil fuels and head towards destruction at an alarming rate.
It's not the people, he says, who are the problem. It's institutional structures and business that block efforts towards mitigation and alternative energy.
