Bad
The large, main vortex had EF-4 winds of 185 mph, and the satellite suction vortices moved across the fields at that speed, and rotated on their own at speeds of up to 110 mph, giving a combined wind speed of up to 295 mph in some of the satellite vortices. It's no wonder that so many storm chasers got in trouble with this tornado, since these suction vortices moved at speeds of up to 185 mph towards them as the tornado rapidly expanded into the largest on record.
The tornado killed tornado scientist Tim Samaras and his two chase partners, Paul Samaras and Carl Young, and also killed an amateur storm chaser, Richard Charles Henderson. The 295 mph winds of the El Reno tornado rank second only to the world-record 302 mph (135 m/s) winds recorded in the Moore, Oklahoma tornado of May 3, 1999. However, the Moore tornado's winds were measured at an altitude of 105 feet (32 meters), so the winds near the surface may have been higher in the El Reno tornado.

(59,587 posts)But when it hits a gay city like Austin or New Orleans . . . that's different!
It would appear that these tornadoes have managed to suck all the air out of that windbag's lungs... and none of the "followers" can handle the hypocrisy since it happened in their front yard. I hope it has managed to remove the scales from some eyes...
I am somewhat shaken by the tragedy of it, was a relief worker at the Greensburg, KS aftermath... can't shake some of the images off. I feel for these families and communities regardless of their beliefs.

(5,504 posts)Yes thank goodness those windbags haven't waded in.
LOL as I may have misinterpreted yours!!
But I am still glad the windbag contingent has remained silent so far.
I have to say that this set of possible misinterpretations reminds me of an assignment I had in a linguistics class back in college where I had to describe a conversation that failed due to misinterpretations... this could have been the topic of such a paper!

(3,370 posts)There have been 8 EF-5 tornadoes in Oklahoma since 1950. Two occurred in the last two weeks. Scary stuff.
R.I.P. Tim, Paul Samaras and Carl Young, as well as all those who have been killed by these storms. Tim Samaras was a big hero to me.
