Related: About this forumJapan says Australia's "moral crusade" against whaling is out of place in the modern world
"Japan has told the United Nation's highest court that Australia's anti-whaling stance is part of a "civilising mission and moral crusade" that is totally out of place in the modern world.
Tokyo did not hold back in its opening submission to the 16 judges of the international court of justice (ICJ) in The Hague on Tuesday.
"The days of civilising missions and moral crusades are over," lawyer Payam Akhavan told the court."

(4,192 posts)3. I'd say they have that backwards. There is no place for hunting and killing whales in this modern
world. I say that based on two primary things: one, what we have learned of the intelligence of whales; and two, the unsustainability of the whales if they are allowed to be slaughtered again. Their "tradition" of whaling is not sacrosanct. It's barbaric.

(1 post)5. Using words like barbaric or cruel can mislead.
We kill and eat animals, and we may or may not be barbaric. The "moral crusade" here just means you shouldn't easily call someone barbaric.
It seems like a matter of religion to believe whales are not like other animals. We can still argue if people need to hurt religious and sacred livings for other people.
