South Korea Rolls Out First Electric Road To Charge Electric Vehicles

Last week, South Korea debuted the world's first electric road, 15 miles of city streets with underground cables that charge EVs parked or driving above — no plug-in stations necessary.

In the city of Gumi, two commuter buses will be the first to test the program, and the city plans to add 10 more over the next two years. Known as Online Electric Vehicles or OLEVs, the buses have batteries about one-third the size of the typical electric car battery.

I'm guessing here, but it sounds like since the coil is in the vehicle, above the road by about 12", it's not in close proximity to the source of induction, so they somehow focus it so that it's aimed at the coil in the vehicle.

Poorly worded, and perhaps totally wrong, but that's my thought on what they're doing.

Clever and funny, even if only fictional. But I think the Koreans are onto something. And powering the vehicles is only the first step. Way cool.
