NC GOP Legislators 'Will Not Rest" Until They Get Answers; Might Mandate Cleanup "In Principle"

EDIT

State Sen. Thom Goolsby, R-New Hanover, said he appreciates Senate President Pro Tem Phil Berger's call for "immediate legislative inquiry into these situations."

"We will not rest until we get full answers and the appropriate authorities are held responsible," Goolsby said via text.

Reportedly, state Sen. Tom Apodaca, R-Hendersonville, the influential chairman of the Senate Rules Committee, plans to draft legislation to require Duke Energy to clean up all 14 of its coal ash ponds – which would include the one near Wilmington.

EDIT

While Goolsby said he hadn't seen the legislation, he said mandating a cleanup is a concept he would support in principle.
