Clean Coal Test: Power Plants Prepare to Capture Carbon

Link: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/energy/2014/03/140331-carbon-capture-kemper-coal-climate/

Basically, the article covers two coal plants that are going to be the first to use carbon capture at actual production facilities. The US one, operated by Southern Co., is brand new and uses a bunch of advanced tech to capture the carbon. The Canadian one is an existing plant that will be retrofitted with capture technology.
So, we'll see how these work out. I suppose coal is going to be around for quite a while, so better to capture the CO2 than not, although the US one will only achieve the same CO2 output as a combined cycle nat gas plant after all is said and done. Seems a Rube Goldberg way of getting to that same place.

So no, it is not a means of helping the environment, it is yet another scam where they
get funding/tax credits for "helping" whilst, in reality, simply making things worse by
1) continuing the use of coal-fired power stations and
2) extracting even more fossil fuels to burn

Scum.

(*) "Indefinitely" = until it leaks out

is known for being one of the hard core opponents of regulation of coal power plants, so I'd say your characterization is likely correct.
