[font size=3]PARIS -- Renault could sell the Eolab ultra fuel-efficient concept for a similar price to a diesel-powered Clio, if it decided to build the car, said Thierry Bollore, the company’s chief competitive officer.

Renault has not said whether it will build the Eolab, which the automaker unveiled at the Paris auto show earlier this month.

"We know that in mass production this car it would not cost more than a Clio DCi 90hp," Bollore told Automotive News Europe. The Clio DCi 90 starts at 18,500 euros ($23,900) in France.

The Eolab's fuel consumption is as low as 1 liter per 100km (282 UK mpg; 235 U.S. mpg), Renault said. Its lowest CO2 emissions are 22g/km.

Is this some difference in the size of a 'gallon'? I seem to recall hearing the phrase 'Imperial gallon' in the past. Is it that, or is it simply a difference in the average type (city vs highway) and speed driven in each country affecting fuel efficiency?

That's yet another reason why it would make so much more sense for us to just switch to metric, sigh.

Many pumps couldn't handle the additional digit, so, as a stop-gap measure, they sold gas by the liter.

However, with newer pumps, they returned to the gallon.

except maybe the gov't.

once upon a time,
gas tax was 40c on a gallon.

now it is 40c on a liter.

ditto that for food
and everything else
