NSFW, the saddest environmental documentary I have ever seen...

...Fuck for Forest.

Years ago my wife was working on an Indian reservation with her white guy husband (me) and our small children, living in reservation housing.

The failure of European (especially Germanic) Romanticism about American Indian culture was measured by the holes punched in the walls by previous residents. Many had been shunned by the local community entirely but had felt obligated to live out the terms of their contracts.

I have entirely positive memories about the place, including the day I got thoroughly and humiliatingly scolded for the wine box I'd bought in Albuquerque they'd found in our trash.

Our kids were awesome. Me and our kids were wandering around one day, checking out botany and geology, taking only pictures, leaving only footprints, when we caught the attention of a tribal cop. I'm sure he'd thought I was some white-guy moron looking for arrowheads and pot shards. My youngest, just three years old, and a naturally charming kid, said, "Mister Policeman, can I look at your gun?"

That was the funny story that broke the ice.
