San Francisco’s Driest January On Record Likely, No Rain So Far In 2015, Drought continues

San Francisco’s Driest January On Record Likely, No Rain So Far In 2015
January 26, 2015 11:27 AM

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – Across much of Northern and Central California there has been little if any rain this month, and monthly totals will wind up at or near long-term records.

As of Monday, San Francisco had no rainfall for the entire month. If this trend continues, it would beat the record low of 0.06 inches set last January. In January 2013, 0.49 inches of rain fell on San Francisco.

The past three Januaries in San Francisco are among the five driest on record. This has brought the average for the past ten years down to 3.03 inches, dramatically lower than the 30-year normal of 4.55 inches.

A highly-amplified atmospheric pattern over North America–once again

What has been the cause of all this California weather volatility and the recent trend towards warmer and drier conditions (despite the fact that January is historically California’s wettest month?). A high-amplitude atmospheric flow pattern has once again developed over the Eastern Pacific and North America, deflecting the Pacific storm track north of its typical cool-season position along the West Coast and allowing repeated intrusions of extremely cold Arctic air to invade the American Midwest and Eastern Seaboard.

We mostly disagree on things here, except for some agreement on desalination.

I understand you want to be or sound chummy, but we don't have any connection except posting here.

It's setting up to be the driest January on record after years of a statewide drought that appears to be continuing.

Climate change is having its way with us.

I dare say that I'm an expert in energy and I have to admit that sometimes I'm unkind to people who know nothing about it.

There has been a big push by some to build desal plants, it makes me crazy because we already have a challenge in meeting our RPS and Governor Brown just raised the goal, and I'm glad.

Anyway, how do we meet the needs for water without doing stupid things.

I would love your input.

And, BTW, it's a used Volt, not new, new is too pricey.

But it's a pretty color, "Viridian Joule"!

Happy New Year and I hope you're well!
