Please help highlight the ghost fishing gear problem?

Beneath the ocean’s surface lies a deep problem. An estimated 640,000 tons of fishing gear are lost in our oceans each year. This discarded fishing gear – known as ghost gear – continues to catch marine animals; entangling and killing seals, turtles and whales. That’s why we’re bringing together seafood companies and fishing communities http://www.worldanimalprotection.us.org/news/tackling-problem-ghost-fishing-gear-seafood-sea-summit in the U.S. to achieve a future of ghost-gear-free seas. Help us highlight the problem of lost and abandoned fishing gear by sharing our infographic on Facebook http://www.e-activist.com/ea-action/broadcast.record.message.click.do?ea.url.id=366722&ea.campaigner.email=%2BZ8UQK8mIN4uNBem%2Biz05FESkN1MQhKC&ea.campaigner.id=OcjgvekvCAGZkArzVWMSmA==&ea_broadcast_target_id=0 and Twitter. http://www.e-activist.com/ea-action/broadcast.record.message.click.do?ea.url.id=366724&ea.campaigner.email=%2BZ8UQK8mIN4uNBem%2Biz05FESkN1MQhKC&ea.campaigner.id=OcjgvekvCAGZkArzVWMSmA==&ea_broadcast_target_id=0 With your help, we will save 1 million marine animals by 2018.

Old nets made of natural fibers didn't cause the same problems ... they eventually rotted. eppur_se_muova Feb 2015 #1

Long-lasting plastic nets save lots of money, but keep killing for decades after they are lost. Solutions range from high-tech (RFID tags and cell phones on nets) to low (back to hemp).
