After Beating FBI Entrapment, Environmental Activist Eric McDavid Looks Forward

After Beating FBI Entrapment, Environmental Activist Eric McDavid Looks Forward
3/10/15

After serving nine years in prison, Eric McDavid was freed on January 8, 2015, when it was revealed - through Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)-released court documents pored over by his supporters - that the government withheld documents from him that supported his defense claim that he was entrapped by the FBI.

McDavid, who identifies as an anarchist and an environmental activist, was charged with "conspiracy to use fire or explosives to damage corporate and government property" in May 2008 and sentenced to 19 years and 7 months in prison.

...According to Eric McDavid's lawyer, civil rights attorney Ben Rosenfeld, "Over the course of my 15-year career, I have seen a sharp rise in the targeting, entrapment and absurd branding of environmental activists as terrorists, dovetailing with the FBI's focus after 9-11 in trying to prevent terrorism, or at least pretend to the public that it is doing so, which misdirects priorities, infects judicial processes with bias, and insults the victims of actual terror."

In 2004, the FBI stated, "In recent years, the Animal Liberation Front and the Earth Liberation Front have become the most active criminal extremist elements in the United States." Even though the FBI admits that these groups discourage any act that harms an animal or human, this type of rhetoric that brands activists as "terrorists" has led to the entrapment arrests of Bradley Crowder and David McKay; the SHAC 7 arrests - and more recently, Eric McDavid.

McDavid's case was described as one of the most blatant cases of FBI entrapment in US history, involving an informant who went by "Anna." ...

The world is heading into an era of growing instability on a large number of fronts, concurrent with a rise in authoritarianism by governments previously identified as "liberal". Justice advocates should prepare for a long battle with an uncertain outcome, including the probability that they will be targeted along with those they are trying to protect.

I know we are as corrupt as them. I'd like to change that.

I voted for Obama for many reasons, this^ was one of them. To end the endless wars (& war crimes)...

And I feel plutocracy is behind the damage our country does. I'd like to get the US to represent US again.

We need to get $$$ out of Politics. Public Funding of campaigns only. End private campaign bribes...

Official Washington’s Delusions on Delusions
3/11/15

Official Washington operates in its own bubble of self-delusion in which the stars of U.S. politics, policy and media don’t realize how the rest of the world sees their sociopathic behavior. This craziness is now reaching a crisis point on Iran and Russia.

...In other words, it wasn’t what the U.S. government has done around the world that has provoked this antipathy – from the endless boasting about America’s “indispensable” and “exceptional” qualities to its destructive behavior, including spreading bloody havoc via “regime change” schemes in Iraq, Libya, Syria, Ukraine and elsewhere.

And, it’s not that the U.S. government looks clownish when the majority party in Congress expresses doubts about global warming and other scientific judgments. Nor is it the continued examples of racism and the police shootings of unarmed blacks. Nor the global spying by the National Security Agency. Nor the national self-degradation when members of Congress behave like trained seals jumping up and down to applaud Israel’s Netanyahu.

No, the only reason that the Russian people look askance at the United States is that they are being deceived by the lying “propaganda” dictated by the evil Vladimir Putin. By contrast, the American people always get the straight story from their mainstream U.S. news media, the gold standard for the world!
