Graphene light bulb is to go on sale later this year.

A light bulb made with graphene - said by its UK developers to be the first commercially viable consumer product using the super-strong carbon - is to go on sale later this year.

The dimmable bulb contains a filament-shaped LED coated in graphene. It was designed at Manchester University, where the material was discovered.
It is said to cut energy use by 10% and last longer owing to its conductivity.

It is expected to be priced lower than some LED bulbs, which can cost about £15 each.

Based on traditional light bulb design, the use of graphene allows it to conduct electricity and heat more effectively.
Prof Bailey told the BBC: "The graphene light bulb will use less energy. We expect it to last longer. The manufacturing costs are lower and it uses more and more sustainable components."

if they're comparing power usage to the incandescent bulbs.

I light whole rooms with 6 watts of CFL these days. One of the older CFLs in this place is 18 years old and still going strong.

I did the swapover when I moved in here because I hate climbing ladders to change bulbs when they burn out as frequently as incandescent bulbs did.

I have a few LED bulbs here and there but they tend to be a lot dimmer than the CFL bulbs.

5. I have a few CFLs but I'm mostly LED now. So far, they're holding their brightness.

I like the daylight ones better than the soft white. A 40 watt equivalent daylight led will light a regular sized bedroom just fine and uses only 6 watts of electricity. I really like them on the front and back porch as they are just as bright on a cold night as they are on a warm one.
