Power out? Plug your house into your car

Honda's New Product Supplies 9kW of Electricity From EV to Appliances

Nikkei Technology | Masaya Sato | October 7, 2015

Honda Motor Co Ltd unveiled a high-output external power supply unit that can transmit electricity from an electric vehicle (EV) or fuel-cell vehicle (FCV) to home appliances.

The power supply unit, "Power Exporter 9000," was exhibited at Ceatec Japan 2015, which runs from Oct 7 to 10, 2015, in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. With a rated output of 9kVA (equivalent to 9kW), it can power even a large air conditioner and medical precision equipment. Honda aims to have the unit employed by municipalities and public facilities such as hospitals as an emergency power source.

A car and a generator- and the only exhaust is water

The cable of the new product is connected to a "CHAdeMO" EV rapid-charging port. For transmitting electricity to appliances, it is equipped with six 100V outlets and one 200V outlet and capable of supplying up to 90A of electricity.

A "sine wave inverter" mechanism controlled by a microcomputer was employed as the inverter of the power supply unit so that alternating-current power with a stable waveform can be generated. As a result, the unit was used for medical devices expected to be used at the time of disaster with no difficulty in a joint research conducted by Honda and Tottori University Hospital.

Because the unit uses an EV or FCV, it does not generate exhaust gas or noise and can be used anywhere...snip

Because I would be out of battery. It is doable, for a very very short time. I've been through hurricanes ( no power for weeks) I would rather have no house AC than no running car.

If you plugged in your refridge or your AC into the inverter plugged into your cigarette lighter it would immediately blow the fuse in your inverter, the cigarette lighter and possibly a main bus fuse in your car. That would protect your battery. Your device that plugs into your gigarette lighter is only good for a few light bulbs and chargers.

Trust me.

Although there are smaller fridges which probably would work. Regardless, I would never try it lol. I have enough non perishable food to last me for months ( in case a natural disaster ) so I'm not really worried about a refrigerator.

at the nearest coal-fired electric generation plant.

Moving pollution to a distant location is not the same as not polluting.

Outside of those selected areas, it's still polluting.

It's really not that difficult, people have done it for thousands of years before electricity was invented.

When Carnegie Hall held its grand opening celebration IN 1891, Tchaikovsky came over from Russia to conduct five of his works.

This was before fossil fuels and before widespread electrification.

It is possible to have culture and civilization without electricity and without diesel and gasoline.

And weather is going to be a major solar flare, a cataclysm, or some sort of mass awakening (I doubt the latter will ever happen, but hey one can only hope), eventually we will have to learn to live without power. All this uber technology and dependency is killing us and the planet.
