Related: About this forumThis is what can happen when you elect a socialist government in North America
Rachel Notley is the Premier who heads the NDP government of Alberta, as the result of a recent landslide victory over the oil-soaked Conservative party. The NDP, for those on the outside of Canadian politics, is the socialist party that brought Canada its universal single-payer health care system back in 1966.
Rachel Notleys climate plan may be the most radical policy shift ever seen in Alberta
On a single Sunday afternoon, Premier Rachel Notley changed everything in Alberta.
Her climate action plan may be the most radical policy shift ever seen in this province. It seeks to re-engineer an entire economy into something different, by gradually shrinking the main energy drivers and raising up whole new industries to take their place
We will have a $3-billion-a-year carbon tax, much like B.C. and Quebec.
Everyone will pay at the pump and through their electricity bills. Lower-income people will be reimbursed by some undecided means, with money from the tax itself. Plenty more will go to industry incentives (or funerals, as in the case of coal.)
The other provinces havent been overly burdened by such carbon taxes, but theres much more to Notleys plan. She also pledges quicker phase-out of all coal-fired electricity, and an eventual cap on oilsands emissions at 100 megatonnes per year.
Its a one-two-three punch on top of higher corporate and income taxes, all of this rolled out to a sinking economy, with the long-term promise of vibrant and sustainable new industries.

the repub clown car.
A majority of state governments are controlled by repubs.
The House and Senate are controled by repubs.
The Supreme Court has a conservative majority
Why don't we run a socialist for president seems the country is ripe for it!
