(6,183 posts)In 1979 President Carter signed into law a number of measures that would:
Make America 100% energy independent by the year 2000
Promote solar energy
Promote wind energy
Promote battery research and electric cars
Provide assistance to make homes more energy efficient (insulation, etc)
When Pres. Reagan took office in 1980 he began immediately and tirelessly to erase all of those measures from the books.
So here we are today, 32 years later and already suffering the consequences of those decisions, thanks to one man: President Ronald Reagan. RIP.

I wonder if they are in fact aware of the extent of the crisis, and that's driving the pessimistic tone of the report.
