CMP, Emera proposal would double Maine wind power

http://bangordailynews.com/2016/02/01/business/cmp-emera-proposal-would-double-maine-wind-power/

PORTLAND, Maine — Central Maine Power Co. and Emera Maine’s joint proposal for a new power line to serve renewable energy to southern New England seeks to more than double Maine’s wind power capacity with projects from SunEdison and EDP Renewables.

For the joint Emera-CMP bid that would reach into Aroostook County, developers SunEdison and EDP Renewables have proposed adding about 1,250 megawatts of new capacity, on top of about 1,300 megawatts installed or scheduled for constructio n in Maine.

Separate projects that bid into the request for renewables proposals from Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut would add even more wind capacity in the state.

The projects vying for long-term power contracts from the southern New England states include the 600-megawatt, 174-turbine King Pine proposal from SunEdison. The company began testing wind conditions for that site in 2011, which would be built in unorganized territory northwest of Houlton on the border of Aroostook and Penobscot counties.
