Vaquita

Do you know what a Vaquita is? Did you know its the rarest of the Harbor Porpoises? Did you know that there are less than 100 individuals left? Did you know that their rarity has been caused by the damming of the Colorado River and illegal gill-net-fishing for the endangered totoaba bass?

They are endemic to the Delta region in the northern Sea of Cortez where the Colorado River (used to) empty into the Sea of Cortez.

Despite designation of a new Biosphere Reserve, Vaquita continue to be drowned in gill nets set by desperate local fishermen hoping to catch yet another endangered species, the totoaba?

Yeah, the argument over which democratic candidate matters in the short-term, but, as they say, extinction is forever.
