And this is with a leveling off of human CO2 emissions?!?! NickB79 Apr 2016 #5
That's the $64 trillion question, isn't it? GliderGuider Apr 2016 #6

Did anyone really think we would hit a co2 level of 350 or 400 and then it would just magically stop there?

We are so cooked!

Where's the GoFundMe page for the start-up who wants to start cleaning our air?

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-03-17/global-energy-emissions-have-decoupled-from-economic-growth-iea/7252980

"Preliminary data released by the International Energy Agency (IEA) has found global emissions of carbon dioxide stood at 32.1 billion tonnes last year, in line with 2014, and have remained essentially flat since 2013."

The CO2 spike means only one of two things.

-Either the nations of this planet are SERIOUSLY lying about the amount of carbon they're emitting

Or (and this is the far scarier option)

-We've so saturated the planet's carbon sinks, and kicked off so many positive feedback loops in the carbon cycle, that the natural systems we've relied on for centuries are now incapable of moderating our CO2 emissions. The planet is now venting carbon from thawing permafrost and melting clathrates.

Fuck me, this rollercoaster suddenly got even faster and steeper.

We may be seeing sink saturation, but the data doesn't seem to indicate that yet.

3) The models (and surrounding publicity) have been watered down so much
by political & financial bodies that reality appears to be "unforeseen" whereas
it is merely "unpalatable".

Your last line is true though, regardless of the underlying reason ...

I had always thought that massive societal change due to climate change would affect my daughters latter years...I'm in my early fifties and I genuinely think it's now going to happen in MY lifetime....

We are so fucked and we just keep pretending it's not real, or that it's fixable....
