So my oven died today, the baking element.......

I thought it might be fun to keep a sort of diary of how much trouble I get into trying to fix it.

Since the oven is so old it doesn't seem to have a model number anywhere, I had to start by just picking out a new element that looked like it would fit. So far I'm down about 25 bucks to Amazon, with delivery scheduled for Oct. 24.

Wish me luck.

Well, that's practically unheard of these days.

I look forward to following your adventures here.

I need the thermostat replace on mine, but I don't see Mr. Fixit making a whole lot of progress in that direction.

We have very little access to most things, but we do have a localled owned store that just sells appliance parts and does minor repairs on things. When my broiler quit working, I got the element out of the stove, took it down there, and they had just the right part. I am so grateful to be able to do this, since I didn't even know what that part was called.

and the local guy popped me a hundred bucks for a replacement, since it was of course as old as the house and now on purpose rare.

Later I found the breaker on line for about fifteen. Hence what I did.

recently, new left over from some jobs, but I just could not compete with some of the really low prices, so I took a bunch of them to Habitat.

Strange to tell, it was exactly the right part, so that element must have been standard in the old days. The only trouble was getting the two rusted screws loose, just as the internet hints site said, but 45 minutes later the oven was heating again.

That's a lot of metal kept out of the recycling bin, not to mention a few bucks saved.

Oven's been doing great for some time now, so that's been a win. Pizza with extra pineapple. Mmmm.
