Map of every railroad line in the world, and the maximum allowed speed on those lines

I've seen a lot of odd things on the internet, but I can't believe anybody sat down and did this. This appears to be a wiki-like effort.

Who does this stuff?

Huge hat tip to poster Bob Wilcox at Trainorders:

Happily, in today's world, we have other options, such as https://www.openrailwaymap.org/index.php

OMG - thank you, thank you for the link to the railway maps. It may not be perfect but it is truely amazing.

Yes, the Colorado Midland is on the map, as an abandoned line.

I'm surprised at the number of countries with little or no rail underpants Aug 2018 #1
At least some of the map in this country is misleading. PoindexterOglethorpe Aug 2018 #2
Keep in mind that most of the rail 'service' in this country is for FREIGHT, elleng Aug 2018 #3
Yeah. Too bad the map didn't have separate colors for freight and passenger travel. PoindexterOglethorpe Aug 2018 #4

You'd think you can take a train between Albuquerque and Denver, but you can't. You can take a train between Albuquerque and Raton, NM, then a bus to Denver. Or, train all the way via either Los Angeles or Chicago.

There is remarkably little north-south train service, other than on the east and west coasts, and a central line from Chicago to New Orleans. Sigh. I would love to take the train more often, but the lack of service is shocking.
