Woman banned from selling the sun set to sue eBay

A WOMAN from Galicia who was banned by eBay from selling plots of land on the sun has won the right to take the internet auction site to court. María Ángeles Durán registered the star in her name with a notary in 2010 and in 2013 began offering one-square-metre plots for a euro each.

The notary's document declares Sra Durán, who lives in Ribiera, to be the "owner of the Sun, a star of spectral type G2, located in the centre of the solar system, located at an average distance from Earth of about 149,600,000 kilometres". International agreements say that no country can claim ownership of a planet or a star, but, says Sra Durán, they do not rule out private individuals.

When eBay eventually noticed the advertisement she had placed on their site, its administrators promptly blocked her, claiming that it was in breach of its intangible goods policy.
