(Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said on Wednesday he and Venezuelan Foreign Minister Elias Jaua had agreed to find new ways to forge positive relations between their two countries, long at political loggerheads.
Kerry welcomed as a "positive development" Venezuela's decision to release from prison an American filmmaker arrested in April on accusations of spying for Washington.
Washington has angered Venezuela's government by holding back recognition of new President Nicolas Maduro, the chosen successor of late socialist leader Hugo Chavez.
"We agreed today, both of us, that we would like to see our countries find a new way forward, establish a more constructive and positive relationship," Kerry said after a meeting with Jaua on the sidelines of a meeting of the Organization of American States in Antigua, Guatemala.

(166 posts)Venezuela's government is always angry at Washington and whoever opposes its bufoon president.
It is clear that President Maduro's strategy of making himself heard doesn't help him much, as the contents of his numerous complaints are nothing more than senseless.
Mr. Maduro should dedicate his time find ways to normalize the availability of food and basic products, which would have a needed impact on crime, and reduce everyday protests by the population.

(166 posts)I don't know how Kerry will be able to "forge positive relations" with a country that is being run by a person that has not a bit of qualifications to be president of a 21st century major oil producer.
Maduro has been reacting with notorious violence at Washington's stand on the dispute regarding supposed U.S. interference in Venezuelan affairs. Affairs that have been magnified with insolence by an out-of-control Maduro who has dared to order U.S. representatives to be detained.
