Daesh attacks oil ports in eastern Libya

Tuesday, 05 January 2016 12:54

Daesh forces attacked targets in the oil-rich area of Sidra in eastern Libya on Monday, Anadolu has reported. Three security personnel were killed in the incident, a Libyan military official revealed.

A source in parliament in Tobruk told Anadolu that the three were killed by suicide bombers in two cars. This was followed by machine-gun fire from four sides. According to the anonymous source, the attackers belonged to Daesh, which is attempting to take control of the area. He added that the clashes continued throughout Monday between militants and forces guarding the oil facilities.

Although Daesh has not issued any statement regarding the incident, it is known that its forces are present in the Noufeliya area, which has been under the group’s control since February last year. It is near Sidra, which contains Libya’s largest oil ports. Militants linked to Daesh are also based in Harawa, near Sirte.

Whoever is behind Isis and the various other groups seems to want to grab the oil areas...

And that's precisely the reason Gaddafi had to go.
Any kind of secular Arab nationalism in MENA had to be undermined at all costs.
