North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is demanding a huge fee if the foreign press want to interview him for the 60th anniversary of the armistice on July 27 that ended the 1950-53 Korean War. The North has invited scores of foreign reporters to the event. The first foreign reporters arrive in Pyongyang on Thursday. The source said there is a chance that one or two news providers will bite because Kim Jong-un likes to mimic foreign leaders and show off. Kim's demand to the press is not that surprising, because now the regime will do anything to make money. From weapons traded with Cuba and Iran to the blackmail against Seoul to reopen the inter-Korean areas. North Korea must have decided that public austerity of Kim Jong-il is not worth as much as one or two million dollars. This compares to Lindsay Lohan who agreed to give her exclusive interview to Oprah Winfrey, but even the most lucrative voice in media had to cough up 2 million dollars for the actress' story. I guess Lindsay Lohan is worth more than Kim Jong-un.

(23,411 posts)I could see there certainly being logistical costs. But in some, not too distant age, media staff were not charged in this manner - not directly. Instead the price of access was editorial policy - a much higher cost, I'd say.

Though he might have some interesting stories to tell, his persona leaves much to be desired for a sad story of a spoiled guy who appears to believe he has something to tell about a place where every citizen is a slave (excluding him).
North Korea will only show how military boys march, and will not show how the rest of the population starves to death, with the benevolent exception of the 1-million boys in the military.
It will also show how boring life can be in a cold, humid and pestilent environment, with the ever-present guards watching every step that every citizen takes.
It is a show of a monstrously backward society with no rights, no future, no freedom, and no hope.
