Myanmar's next president: Retired general grilled on Suu Kyi

Myanmar's National League for Democracy has named two candidates, as the country starts the process of selecting a new president.

The nominations confirm that NLD leader Aung San Suu Kyi will not be president of the country.

The army - which still controls a quarter of all parliamentary seats and key security ministries - remains a significant force in Burmese politics.

Myanmar's parliament is on its way to choosing a new president, four months after the first free elections ended more than 50 years of military rule. Three candidates have been nominated. Myanmar’s president will take office at the end of March.
