'Theresa May has indicated that Brexit could be delayed as she said she will not trigger the formal process for leaving the EU until there is an agreed UK approach backed by Scotland.
The Prime Minister on Friday travelled to Scotland to meet Nicola Sturgeon, the First Minister, and discuss plans for Britains Brexit negotiation.
In a sign that the new Prime Minister is committed to keeping the Union intact, she said she will not trigger Article 50 the formal process for withdrawing from the EU until all the devolved nations in the country agree.'>>>

I think they will say "we can't pull out, because Scotland doesn't want to", then walk away breathing a sigh of relief.
on edit: Maybe I shouldn't equate them, but Scottish secessionists in some ways remind me of the ones in Texas. They make big noise about separation, but they know that it is not in their economic interest to do so. Should England pull out, that may change the equation (but then I don't know enough about it)

(2,792 posts)That is one of the essential rules (and oddities) of the agreement. Leaving the union can only be triggered by a member nation itself initiating exit by invoking Article 50. The EU cannot compel any nation to exit. There are exceptions of course, such as cases of grievous human rights violations; but the UK has not been guilty of anything that would allow the EU to forcibly oust them. So it all depends on what the UK does or does not do.

(15,369 posts)will agree to ANY Brexit and Northern Ireland also needs to be considered. Wales is having major second thoughts, from what I hear, but Wales got it wrong in the referendum so tough toenails to any do-over for them.
As some have noted, it may be the EU that will actually pull the carpet out from under the pussyfooting, i.e., either p*** or get off the pot altogether. There has been longtime below-the-radar simmering for years at the UK's hissyfits, as expressed by the loathsome Nigel Farage and other UKIP reps in the European Parliament.
