South Korea has proposed that North Korea host some of the skiing events at next years Winter Olympics, in a move it hopes will ease cross-border political tensions.
The South Korean sports minister, Do Jong-hwan, has also suggested forming an inter-Korean womens ice hockey team to compete at the Games, which open in February in the South Korean town of Pyeongchang.
Do cited North Koreas top-class Masikryong ski resort as a potential venue and said he would discuss co-hosting with Jang Woong, North Koreas delegate to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), according to South Korean media.
His overture reflects a desire by South Koreas new president, Moon Jae-in, for cautious engagement with Pyongyang, despite anger over the its recent missile launches and the death this week of the US university student Otto Warmbier after nearly 17 months in a North Korean prison.

(16,423 posts)2. A few questions:
How is NK supposed to host the event if their own population is starving?
How are journalists supposed to walk around in NK? Will everybody get a minder?
If a South-Korean goes to North-Korea, will North-Korea straight-up kidnap him, like they did repeatedly throughout the years?
If a foreigner goes to the Olympics and NK jails him for some miniscule crime (like using sarcasm), what happens to the Olympics?
And last:
How will this NOT be compared to the 1936 Olympic Games hosted by Hitler????????????????

(3,613 posts)3. I feel misinformed when the only country that thinks that this is a good idea is South Korea
Is North Korea actually going to enter an event that they are not certain of winning?
Based on the last few decades of propaganda, shouldn't they win gold in every event?

(16,423 posts)5. Kim Jong-Il once scored a hole-in-one on all 18 holes of a Golf-course.
His official bio says that, so it must be true.
