A 15-year-old boy who stood up to far-right activists during violent protests in Rome has won plaudits across Italy.
The boy, Simone, was filmed speaking out in defence of minorities on Tuesday, when hundreds of far-right activists and residents took to the streets of Torre Maura, a Rome suburb. They were demonstrating against the temporary rehousing of 70 Roma people at a reception centre in the area.
While one of the leaders of the neo-fascist CasaPound party was telling journalists that local people did not want the Roma around, Simone raised his hand and intervened, saying: I dont think like you.
What you are doing here in Torre Maura is exploiting the anger of the people. You turn this anger into votes, for your interests.

(22,537 posts)Vicenza where I and my Maltese had spent a few nights some months earlier. I guess we waited in the car while grandma went to tell her daughter what was going on. A few minutes later, out pops grandma waving money. She said they were full, but her daughter remembered that they'd overcharged me, so here's my refund. I know the only reason she remembered me was thanks to the Maltese. The italians are crazy for Maltese...but the Maltese wasn't with us and daughter didn't come out and I'd never have known about the money. If at all possible, anyone going to Italy should definitely accompany a long-haired Maltese. You'll experience the Italian soul.
