Hamid Karzai Should Call His Brothers to Afghanistan

Afghan President Hamid Karzai has said that if British soldiers had not set foot in Helmand Province, the situation in the province would have been improved. Karzai said that the Taliban are his brothers and America is the enemy. He said that the U.S. had abandoned him and that he cannot wait any longer.

For 12 years, Hamid Karzai fought against the Taliban with the help of NATO soldiers; during that time, the Taliban were the enemy. Now that U.S. proposals regarding security matters are not in accordance to Karzai's wishes, it is the U.S. that is bad and the Taliban that are good. If Karzai loves the Taliban so much, he is welcome to invite the Taliban also operating in Pakistan to his own country, regarding them also as his brothers.

Whatever terrorism is taking place in this region today is linked directly or indirectly to the Taliban. The cities of Afghanistan today project images of ruin. If Afghanistan had been governed in accordance to laws prevailing in the world, one would not be witness to the ruin and destruction that is seen there today. Karzai's describing the Taliban as his brothers is not a demonstration of noble love, but of malice.

If today the U.S. would support Karzai's brother as the presidential candidate, then today's enemy, the U.S., would become Hamid Karzai's brother and today's brothers, the Taliban, would become Karzai's enemies. Hamid Karzai would do well to make an effort to grasp the stances of the nations of the world instead of focusing on local realities in Afghanistan.
