This whole thing is to clean Russia's clock to the point they are forced to honor the Budapest Memorandum, a treaty signed in which Ukrain (then the third largest nuclear power) returned their nuclear weapons to Russia in exchange for a guarantee of secure borders. Putin decided he didn't like that, he wants to expand the Empire west while he utterly ignores the massive empire he has in Asia. He's a dangerous fool.

Mutual pledges of border security were meant to stop wars over land, important because such wars tend to extend far beyond the original belligerents into regional or even world wars.

That's why any land grab should be off anyone's table. Plebiscites that are not run by Russia at the point of a gun can alter borders. Conquest should never be allowed.

Any reparations should be tied directly to damage done to Ukraine.
