http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/.premium-1.652870The Shin Bet said in response to queries from Haaretz that bodyguards operate under the authority given to them by law and by government decisions. With a report of an unusual approach of a Palestinian to the fence, close to the time the minister was about to travel out of Nokdim, a need arose to involve his bodyguards. The Palestinian was asked to accompany them for questioning and verification of details, whereupon he was released.
That's how Israel's security scam works--steal land, then steal more land under the guise of protecting the land that was stolen.

It may be another 70 years of apartheid until that happens, but it's pretty much inevitable at this point.

(42,641 posts)there will be a demographic battle, so to speak, for control of the bi-national state. Unless the two peoples agree to live together in peace the region will resemble Northern Ireland. It has been 500 years since the English displaced the native Irish from Northern Ireland, replacing them with English and Scots settlers. There is still conflict there, and there are still riots when the Orangemen have their parade commemorating their "victory".
And all of this is the result of two countries, England and France, deciding to divide up a region to better control the region and the resources. Another toxic side effect of colonialism.

(68,868 posts)1) Israel has all/the vast majority of the power in its dealings with the Palestinians;
2) Change can only happen when those with power are willing to make it happen;
3) The Israelis have shown no signs that they want the status quo to change--the settlements and checkpoints and resource expropriation increase each year, instead of the reverse.

(68,868 posts)than it was the case in 1967.
So, I think 52 years from now, making it a full century of armed, hostile occupation, is enough for all involved to consider it permanent.
But, I think a case could be made for 27 years for now and 75 years of continuous, increasingly intense occupation being a good marker for a permanent occupation and de facto annexation.

(68,868 posts)as the Palestinians have to fear from the Israelis.
If they were concerned about security, they would not be building those settlements. They build the settlements because they want power, control and dominion over all lands between the river and the sea. They think their god promised them all of that land, and view the Palestinians as a nuisance and pests rather than neighbors and as human beings with rights.

(68,868 posts)Israel has decided that its preferred policy for 'security'--complete power and control over the Palestinians--just happens to be exactly what the Greater Israel "river to the sea" movement calls for.
The Palestinians are not an existential threat to Israel. Only Israel's policy of occupation and apartheid is an existential threat to Israel.
