However, in making the offer Likud also attempted to clip Shakeds wings, insisting that she not be able to appoint religious court judges and that she also not chair the Israeli Judicial Committee, the body that appoints judges for the law courts, Hebrew-language news sites reported.
Instead, a Likud minister would head the religious court judges appointment panel, with Shaked, who is nonreligious, and a representative from the ultra-Orthodox Shas party also having their say. The religious courts handle, among other things, matters of marriage and divorce.
Jewish Home indicated, though, that without Shaked retaining leadership of the judicial committee for the law courts, the party will not sign a coalition deal.
Further complicating the negotiations, Housing Minister Uri Ariel reportedly demanded from Jewish Home leader Naftali Bennett that he be given the Justice Ministry instead, under pain of him and another two MKs leaving the coalition, which would leave Netanyahu shy of his needed majority, Army Radio reported.
So, Israel's most powerful legal leader will be Ayelet Shaked., who has explicitly advocated genocide against the Palestinians:

Here's what Shaked said about that claim:
In a story headlined "Israeli Politician Declares War on the Palestinian People," Resnick actually suggested I compared Palestinian children to little snakes, and accused me of fomenting Palestinian genocide. This vilification was later picked up by several bloggers and reporters, all of whom were convinced of this frightening notion, without even a scrap of fact or truth.
Let's start with my July 1 Facebook post. It was written some 12 years ago, but never published, by a dear man, the recently departed journalist Uri Elitzur. The gist of his article was that once one side in a war attacks the other side's civilians, they can no longer morally claim a special status for their own civilians.
Go ahead, ask a Hebrew speaking friend to translate it for you, they'll confirm this is what my Facebook post was about. But you'll find not a trace of that in Resnick's account. Perhaps it's his own ignorance of the Hebrew language. After all, he got the text from Electronic Intifada, a website dedicated to daily and hourly vilification of my country.
All Resnick had to do to make Elitzur's sober, legally minded discussion sound like a speech made by Hitler himself, was to cherry pick words out of context. A call for the indiscriminate killing of children is a terrible thing. But what if the statement was that any time you kill our children, you're exposing your own children to the same fate? Still unsettling, but rational when you consider that they purposely use their kids as human shields. It's not a call for indiscriminate murder.

She posted that hateful call for genocide of her own volition, referring to future Palestinian children as "little snakes."
Israel's next Justice Minister is a seething, nasty, racist, genocidalist, bloodlusting fascist.
That is not opinion, that is fact.
Sorry if that inconviences those waving blue and white pom-poms.
Must be rough defending Jim Crow.

(68,868 posts)for someone to call for killing the mothers of enemy combatants and destroying their homes so that more "little snakes" won't be born and raised?

(58,724 posts)I don't agree with the sentiments either way but translation can be pretty subjective.
Like the whole "wipe off the map" vs. "vanish from the pages of time" thing with the President of Iran.
I think people can focus on the extreme right-wing positions that this woman has (and proudly affirms) for criticism rather than something that she denies having said or meant.

(58,724 posts)If you can provide me with a link to that, I can try to get a translation.
Electronic Intifada, as you must admit, is an agenda-driven website that is explicitly anti-Zionist and as such would not be the go-to source for an unbiased translation in this case.
It would be like relying on a pro-Zionist Israeli source for a translation of a speech by a Palestinian extremist.

(30,099 posts)an ulterior motive. The US has supplied arms and political cover to the Israeli
government, as a US citizen who abhors these policies and as a tax payer,
you have skin in the game. No different than when Americans protested
Viet Nam war against LBJ, a Democrat..a president who ignored those
fucking hippies, but you know, he was a Democrat, so those citizens
must have been deeply wrong to be against that war. This is what
you're being told is a reason to support the occupation and all that
goes with it...it is bi-partisan...so it must have merit.
This kind of mindless talk is not worth responding to, and unfortunately,
US foreign policies have been so destructive across the globe, we have
skin in the game in many far away places and an obligation to speak
out against such policies. Just look at how the neocons reacted to Obama on Iran,
they about lost their minds and they don't like to talk about what influences
them, either.
