Orange CEO says his company plans to invest more in Israel

Stephane Richard came to Israel for a brief visit after his request to apologize in Paris to Israel's ambassador were rebuffed.

Less than two weeks after saying in Cairo that Orange S.A. would immediately cut its licensing agreement with Israel’s Partner Communications if it were not financially prohibitive to do so, the company’s CEO came to Jerusalem on Friday, apologized again for his comments, and said his company wants to keep investing here.

Stephane Richard, who unleashed a storm of criticism with the comments he later said were misinterpreted, said at the start of his Friday meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Orange is in the business of communication and connecting people, “certainly not to participate in any kind of boycott.”

“Israel is a fantastic place to be in the digital industry and, of course, our will is to strengthen and to keep on investing here,” he said.

Richard said he deeply regrets the controversy over his words and wants “to make totally clear that Orange as a company has never supported and will never support any kind of boycott against Israel.”

I guess the BDS cultists can take comfort in that any publicity - even negative publicity - is a "win" for BDS. State legislatures passing laws against BDS is a win as well! BDS never loses, ever!

It's not a lie if BDS'ers believe it.

ps,
George Costanza is a BIG zionist in real-life.

Two recent reports suggest that Israel could face catastrophic consequences if it fails to end the mistreatment of Palestinians under its rule, whether in the occupied territories or in Israel itself.

The Rand Corporation’s research shows that Israel could lose $250 billion over the next decade if it fails to make peace with the Palestinians and violence escalates. Ending the occupation, on the other hand, could bring a dividend of more than $120 billion to the nation’s coffers.

Meanwhile, the Israeli finance ministry predicts an even more dismal future unless Israel reinvents itself. It is likely to be bankrupt within a few decades, the finance ministry report says, because of the rapid growth of two groups who are not productive.

By 2059, half the population will be either ultra-Orthodox Jews, who prefer prayer to work, or members of Israel’s Palestinian minority, most of whom are failed by their separate education system and then excluded from much of the economy.

You do know that George Costanza is a fictional character on TV? He was played by Jason Alexander.

Stéphane Richard apologised for his comments, made in Egypt earlier this month, and travelled to the Jewish state last week to explain himself in a meeting with Israel’s prime minister, Binyamin Netanyahu. He had been accused of bowing to Palestinian pressure to boycott the country.

A police spokesperson said: “Stéphane Richard has received death threats on his telephone and his personal details have been put online after the controversy about the presence of Orange in Israel.”

They said he and people close to him had received hundreds of menacing calls.

Grégory Chelli, an Israeli hacker known by his pseudonym Ulcan, who describes himself as a militant Zionist, revealed Richard’s telephone number on his Facebook page. He said: “If you want to say bonjour to the head of Orange …
