'South Park'-style video mocking Gaza war coverage angers foreign journalists in Israel

Source: Haaretz

Board of Foreign Press Association says 'surprised and alarmed' by Foreign Ministry's video: 'Posting misleading and poorly conceived videos on YouTube is inappropriate, unhelpful and undermines the ministry.'

An animated video clip mocking the coverage of last summer’s conflict in Gaza released by Israel’s Foreign Ministry has raised the ire of the foreign press corps in the country.

A statement released by the board of the Foreign Press Association said that it was “surprised and alarmed by the Israeli Foreign Ministry's decision to produce a cartoon mocking the foreign media's coverage of last year's war in Gaza.”

It continued: “At a time when Israel has serious issues to deal with in Iran and Syria, it is disconcerting that the ministry would spend its time producing a 50-second video that attempts to ridicule journalists reporting on a conflict in which 2,100 Palestinians and 72 Israelis were killed. Israel's diplomatic corps wants to be taken seriously in the world. Posting misleading and poorly conceived videos on YouTube is inappropriate, unhelpful and undermines the ministry, which says it respects the foreign press and its freedom to work in Gaza.”

I would point out that these characters have been appearing in these cartoons for about a year. It's interesting that only now do people seem to be noticing how stupid they are.

Israeli PR is almost always pretty poorly done. Not surprising considering who has been in charge over there for the last couple of decades.

The Palestinian side is much better at PR.

The Palestinian side has a new, exciting product that almost sells itself.

The Israeli side does not.

Like the whole "washing" thing. Palestinian PR has created a method by which any positive Israeli PR is identified as "washing" and therefore deemed not only not positive but also a nefarious attempt to distract and deflect.

That is quite an ingenious construct that is pretty unassailable. It works against any kind of positive Israeli press (support for gay rights, helping disaster victims overseas, you name it).
