U.K. Petition to Arrest Netanyahu for 'War Crimes' Reaches Nearly 80,000 Signatures

The number of signatures on a petition calling for the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on his visit to the U.K. in September has nearly doubled to reach almost 80,000.

The e-petition, uploaded to the U.K. Government’s official website earlier this month, calls for Netanyahu to be arrested under international law for "war crimes" during last summer's Israel-Gaza war.

It has gained 36,000 signatures in the last 10 days, reaching about 77,350 signatures as of Sunday evening.

Any government e-petition with 100,000 signatures must be considered for debate in the House of Commons. However, the U.K. Government issued a statement clarifying that under U.K. and international law, "visiting heads of foreign governments, such as Prime Minister Netanyahu, have immunity from legal process, and cannot be arrested or detained.”

A year ago I said that fucker was toast, I believe we are getting there.

I like that bullshit about legal process and immunity, we all saw what that supposed immunity got the long list of heads of government we didn't like, and it wasn't immunity from legal process, no matter how many people's lives we destroyed in the process.

Tony Blair should stand trial on charges of war crimes if the evidence suggests he broke international law over the “illegal” Iraq war in 2003, the Labour leadership frontrunner Jeremy Corbyn has said.

Where is he hiding?

Sir John Chilcot is to apportion blame for Britain’s role in the Iraq war much more widely than had been expected, going well beyond Tony Blair and his inner team, according to sources involved with his six-year inquiry.

While Blair will bear the brunt of the report’s criticism, one source said it would suit the former prime minister to see a wide range of targets blamed when it is published.

It has been assumed that Chilcot would concentrate on Blair and his closest advisers in Downing Street. However, the Guardian understands the inquiry intends to criticise a much bigger circle of ministers and officials, including Jack Straw, foreign secretary at the time of the Iraq invasion in 2003.

Others in focus are Sir Richard Dearlove, then head of MI6, Sir John Scarlett, chairman of the joint intelligence committee, Geoff Hoon, the defence secretary, Clare Short, the international development secretary, and senior officials in the Ministry of Defence (MoD), the Foreign Office and the Cabinet Office. The inquiry took evidence from about 150 people.
