Let me make clear, Matteo, that Israel doesnt oppose a civilian nuclear program in Iran. We oppose a military nuclear program in Iran, Netanyahu said during an official visit to Italy. And regrettably, the deal with Iran allows it to keep and expand a formidable nuclear infrastructure that is completely unnecessary for civilian nuclear purposes, but is entirely necessary for the production of nuclear weapons.
If Iran is this apocalyptic death cult suicide state, well then no nuke program would ever be acceptable.
Remember Netanyahu's March speech?

(58,724 posts)No one thinks of Iran this way.
Just a state that supports terrorist groups, particularly ones bent on attacking Israel.

(68,868 posts)The thinking goes that Iran will nuke Tel Aviv even if it means Tehran gets obliterated by an Israeli nuke.

TEHRAN 14 Dec. (IPS) One of Irans most influential ruling cleric called Friday on the Muslim states to use nuclear weapon against Israel, assuring them that while such an attack would annihilate Israel, it would cost them "damages only".
"If a day comes when the world of Islam is duly equipped with the arms Israel has in possession, the strategy of colonialism would face a stalemate because application of an atomic bomb would not leave any thing in Israel but the same thing would just produce damages in the Muslim world", Ayatollah Ali Akbar Hashemi-Rafsanjani told the crowd at the traditional Friday prayers in Tehran.

(27,509 posts)Your second excerpt is flat out wrong, a lie and a mischaracterization. And it's not in the article you linked to.
Here's the transcript of the March speech:

He's a dipshit rightwing politician who lies like all other politicians, but where's the proof of this lie in particular?

(6,171 posts)It seems as if he even actually tried to bomb Iran a few times but was stopped by his colleagues. If the level of nuclear activity is of no concern for the IAEA and the P5+1, why should it be even remotely Israel's concern? Israel is a nuclear rogue and the only country with nuclear weapons in the Middle-East. Israel should very explicitly be prevented from dictating the terms for other countries that abide by the rules of the IAEA

(30,109 posts)It's a concern to Israel because Iran constantly threatens to annihilate Israel. Iran has been supporting Hamas & Hezbollah attacks on Israeli civilians for years. The question is why Israel should NOT take Iran seriously. See post #10 above.
A rogue?
Israel only has nukes to prevent another Holocaust from occurring & will use them only as a desperate last resort, unlike Iran which has proven to be the #1 exporter of terror worldwide.
Israel's Sunni neighbors aren't scared in the least about Israeli nukes, but they're scared shitless by the thought of Shiite Iran's nukes. Which goes to show Israel is no threat; Iran is.

(6,171 posts)Netanyahu isn't really interested in peaceful solutions, that's why the pigeons of peace are crapping on his head. If you believe that Netanyahu's past actions are proof of his acceptance of a peaceful nuclear program within the boundaries of the NPT, that's up to you.

It's okay to acknowledge you're wrong.
