Israeli group raises NIS 174,000 for Duma attack survivor

As of early Sunday afternoon, an Israeli crowdfunding drive has succeeded in raising over NIS 174,000 ($45,000) to support Ahmed Dawabsha, a Palestinian boy seriously injured on July 31 in a firebombing attack that killed his parents and little brother.

The anti-racism group Tag Meir launched the fundraiser on Wednesday on the Headstart website with an initial goal of NIS 80,000 ($20,000), but exceeded that sum within 24 hours. Organizers wrote on the project’s web page that they have now raised the bar to NIS 240,000 ($62,100), to be reached by early October.

The Molotov cocktail attack, in the northern West Bank village of Duma, killed 18-month-old Ali Dawabsha. His father, Saad, and mother, Riham, succumbed to severe burns the following week and in early September, respectively. Four-year-old Ahmed, who is still hospitalized at the Sheba Medical Center near Ramat Gan with burns over much of his body, is the sole surviving member of his immediate family. His grandfather, Hussein Dawabsha, has assumed responsibility for his care.

Which was surpassed in a day.

Why is it far less than you would have expected?

Dawabsha family, being Palestinian, must appeal to special committee if it wishes to receive Israeli reparations, Haaretz reports

Members of the Dawabsha family, whose home was torched by Jewish terrorists, will not be recognized as terror victims by the state and will not be eligible to receive compensation, Haaretz reported Monday.

According to the report, the law stipulates that the state must compensate Israeli citizens affected by terrorism, but does not apply to Palestinians.

The family will have to make a special appeal to a committee in the Defense Ministry to request compensation.

MK Yousef Jabareen of the United Arab List has appealed to Attorney-General Yehuda Weinstein to enact the same compensation rights given to Israelis to the Palestinian victims of Jewish terror.

Equal before the law? Hardly.

Because the victims were not Jews.

Whereas the PLO pays terrorists.

"Here’s how the system works. When a Palestinian is convicted of an act of terror against the Israeli government or innocent civilians, such as a bombing or a murder, that convicted terrorist automatically receives a generous salary from the Palestinian Authority. The salary is specified by the Palestinian Law of the Prisoner and administered by the PA’s Ministry of Prisoner Affairs. A Palestinian watchdog group, the Prisoners Club, ensures the PA’s compliance with the law and pushes for payments as a prioritized expenditure. This means that even during frequent budget shortfalls and financial crisis, the PA pays the terrorists’ salaries first and foremost — often before other fiscal obligations.

The Law of the Prisoner narrowly delineates just who is entitled to receive an official salary. In a recent interview, Ministry of Prisoners spokesman Amr Nasser read aloud that definition: “A detainee is each and every person who is in an Occupation prison based on his or her participation in the resistance to Occupation.” This means crimes against Israel or Israelis. Nasser was careful to explain, “It does not include common-law thieves and burglars. They are not included and are not part of the mandate of the Ministry.”

Under a sliding scale, carefully articulated in the Law of the Prisoner, the more heinous the act of terrorism, the longer the prison sentence, and consequently, the higher is the salary. Detention for up to three years fetches a salary of almost $400 per month. Prisoners incarcerated between three and five years will be paid about $560 monthly — a compensation level already higher than that for many ordinary West Bank jobs. Sentences of ten to fifteen years fetch salaries of about $1,690 per month. Even greater acts of terrorism, punished with sentences between fifteen and twenty years, earn almost $2,000 per month."

These "salaries" are what stops the PA from disintegrating into civil war, just imagine what would happen if the PA stopped these payments to people who consider themselves full and equal participants in the "struggle"... Not only that, they would also be patronless and would be looking for whomever is willing to take them in. Can you imagine the security situation in the WB if there were heaps of jobless terrorists for hire who would do anything for peanuts?

Historically it's been a good strategy to pay the terrorists in your ranks to stop causing trouble. In Israel, the Irgun stayed on in the IDF, in spite of being terrorists in order to prevent a Jewish civil war in Israel. When Saddam was toppled in Iraq, Bush decided to take the Iraqi military off the the payrolls, so they basically had to fend for themselves and eventually formed IS.

Things aren't as clear-cut as you might think.
