Palestinian girl shot by Jewish settler in East Jerusalem

A Palestinian girl was shot and injured by a Jewish settler on Wednesday near an entrance to the Old City of Jerusalem after she allegedly tried to stab him, according to Israeli media reports.

The girl was seriously wounded in the incident while the Jewish settler sustained moderate injuries, Israeli media reported.

According to Israeli police, the girl was shot by the settler near the Old City’s Al-Sbat Gate, after which she was taken to Jerusalem’s Hadassah Medical Center.

Palestinian eyewitnesses, however, told Anadolu Agency that girl - who, they said, had not been holding a knife - was attacked for no reason by the Jewish settler.

After the girl threw the settler to the ground, Palestinian witnesses said, the latter drew a gun a shot her four times.

‘I’m going to become a martyr,’ Palestinian teen wrote before attack

Shortly before stabbing an Israeli man in Jerusalem, Shorouq Dwayyat posted on Facebook that her ‘greatest desire’ was to die ‘for Allah’

Palestinian teen who stabbed an Israeli man in a terror attack Wednesday wrote of her desire to become a shahid, or martyr, hours before carrying out the knifing.

“I’m going to become a shahid [martyr],” 18-year-old Shorouq Dwayyat wrote in a Facebook post Wednesday morning.

In the post, Dwayyat, a resident of East Jerusalem’s Tsur Baher neighborhood and a student at Bethlehem University, wrote:

“Mother: Where are you going?
Mother, I am going to become a shahid
Mother, I want to ask a request of you
Don’t cry about me, when I become a shahid
#Our greatest desire is to become shadids for Allah”

Dwayyat was evacuated in critical condition to Jerusalem’s Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem after being shot by the Israeli man she stabbed in the back near the entrance to Jerusalem’s Old City Wednesday morning.

I can imagine that a lot of teenagers in East Jerusalem and the West Bank are caught up in the current situation, and that it manifests itself in posts like hers.

I've also noticed that recently there has been a general uncritical acceptance of the term "terrorist" whenever a Palestinian is involved in violence. It's actually conceivable that it's not always the Palestinian who is at fault. In this case, we have conflicting accounts of what happened. I'll be damned if I accept Israeli official sources, as they lie all the time. I can't trust the Palestinian eyewitnesses either who say that the settler started it.

Hopefully, we'll know what happened, eventually...

Jews shoot girl for no reason whatsoever. Hurt settler deserved what was coming to him...

Better headline would be:

Palestinian woman stabs Israeli near Jerusalem holy site: police...

But that's unfortunately not how the game is played...
