German dep’t store apologizes, restocks Golan Heights wines

The German Department store KaDeWe, which on Saturday removed from its store wine produced in the Golan Heights, apologized for the move on Sunday and returned the bottles to its shelves.

Following a great deal of criticism on social media and a protest from the Green Party’s Volker Beck, president of the German-Israeli Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Bundestag, a spokesman for the department store sent him a letter of apology.

“The eight Israeli wines will be immediately returned,” the letter read. “On this issue, dealt with following recommendations of the European Commission, we acted too fast and without sensitivity. We are sorry that the mistaken action of the KaDeWe Group lead to misunderstandings, and we want to apologize for that.”

Pointing out that this department store was originally owned by Jews and confiscated by the Nazis, Netanyahu said that what began with the labeling of products, has evolved into a full-blown boycott of those products.

One customer wrote on KaDeWe’s Facebook page: “Whoever boycotts Jews, I will boycott them.” Another post read “such anti-Semitic behavior is not to be tolerated. Twitter was also alight with attacks on KaDeWe and calls for a boycott of the store.

They're supporting the occupation and Apartheid, which for me is immoral. I hope they reconsider.

has absolutely no desire to even give the impression of supporting anything remotely connected to a boycott or singling-out of Israeli goods or services? Germany doesn't even currently support the labeling requirements.

Are there any other countries whose products stores need to boycott, or is Israel special? For instance, where are the calls to boycott anything from that paragon of human rights known as China (and don't forget about Tibet), or possibly Turkey who occupies half of Cyprus? I guess Iphones and cheap chachkies are the exception to occupation and human rights...

From the bds crowd. The US is just a giant occupier itself. Thankfully this repulsive group is getting zero support in the US from elected officials who see it clearly for what it is. They're smart enough to realize how stupid it is to label something apartheid when e minority group sits in the government.

it was started by and owned by Jews until the Nazis seized it. Stayed in non-Jewish German hands. And more recently sold to an international investor.

They're made and exported in contravention of international law, and if anyone is dumb enough to buy them, they support Apartheid. Why should Germany support Apartheid? Would you buy these products?

No Western nations accuse Israel of it, and neither do major NGO's like Human Rights Watch or Amnesty.

Because it's a dumb, ignorant accusation supported universally by fascists and totalitarian regimes (which tells you all you need to know about it). The accusation is almost as bad as equating Israel to Nazi Germany & accusing it of Genocide - though the reasons for doing so are the same.

Good rule to live by is to NOT mimic fascists by accusing the Jewish state of the same vile bullshit they do. Stay away from fascist terminology as it pertains to Jews. It's unreal this needs to be stated on a liberal forum.

It's the correct description for the political system in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Golan Heights. The people living there are under strict military rule, unlike the illegal settlers who live under Israeli law.
