Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Wednesday that Iran is responsible for the terror attack against Israelis in Bulgaria, which reportedly killed seven people.
Netanyahu said that all the evidence in Israel's possession points to Iran as the party responsible for the attack, in which a bus with Israeli tourists blew up at the Burgas airport earlier Wednesday.
"In the past months we saw Iranian attempts to attack Israelis in Thailand, India, Kenya, and Cyprus," Netanyahu said. "Exactly 18 years after the attack on a Jewish community center in Argentina, the Iranian terror continues to hurt innocent people."
"This is an Iranian terror offensive that is spreading throughout the world," he said, warning that Israel will issue a "strong response against Iranian terror."

(45,850 posts)US President Barack Obama called Prime Minster Binyamin Netanyahu on Wednesday night to express his condolences for the death of at least seven Israelis in a terror attack in Burgas, Bulgaria earlier in the day.
<snip>
Netanyahu thanked Obama for the call, saying that Iran and Hezbollah are waging a terror campaign around the world. "Iran is a global terror state that must face the consequences of its actions," the prime minister said.

(90,061 posts)The bombing of a coach carrying Israeli tourists was carried out by male suicide bomber with fake US identity documents, officials confirm.
The bomber, killed in the attack, was a young man with long hair who was described as a "caucasian" looking like any other tourist.
He was caught on CCTV walking around the airport dressed in sportswear, shorts and carrying a backpack before carrying out the attack on a coach load of Israeli tourists at the airport in the quiet Black Sea resort city of Burgas, some 400 kilometers (250 miles) east of the capital, Sofia.
The death toll was raised to at least eight after the Bulgarian driver of the bus died in hospital overnight. The other six victims were Israeli citizens and the suspected bomber died in the attack, Bulgaria's Interior minister said on Thursday morning.

(206 posts)Any major player in this, like Israel or the US, knows that what they say right now will be dissected, recorded and written down in dozens of reports, expert analyses and even books - written by experts. I think it's likely that they are being very careful and only saying what they have good evidence for. For Iran however, everyone knows that lying and propaganda are their first priority and they have no intelligence reputation to protect. Nothing to lose you could say.
Bulgaria is of course trying to minimize the damage this will cause to its tourism and is denying that the plot was hatched in Bulgaria - which is likely to be true IMO.
(Caution, my opinion on this is worth just about what you paid for it.)

"Israel launched a campaign Sunday to turn attention to Iran and Hezbollah's involvement in international terrorism, with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu taking his case to the US public and Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman announcing a trip to Brussels to convince the EU to put Hezbollah on its terror blacklist.
Netanyahu, appearing on two Sunday morning news programs CBS's Face the Nation and Fox News Sunday said it was clear beyond a doubt that Hezbollah was behind Wednesday's attack in Burgas that killed five Israelis and a Bulgarian bus driver.
"I know, based on absolutely rock solid intelligence, this is Hezbollah, and this is something Iran knows about very, very well," he said. Netanyahu added that Israel knows, without "a shred of doubt," that the operation was carried out "with the encouragement, at the behest and coordination of Iran."
The prime minister said the intelligence information was given to "friendly" intelligence agencies in the world."

Bulgaria's foreign ministry dismissed a statement issued by Qaedat al-Jihad in which the group claims responsibility for the terrorist attack against Israeli tourists in Burgas.
Bulgaria is thus aligning itself with Israeli and US estimates that the attack was carried out by Hezbollah and not a Global Jihad affiliate.

They specifically cite the 1994 bombing of a Jewish community center in Buenos Aires. An Argentine magistrate has indicted both senior Iranian and Hezbollah officials for being the masterminds of the bombing.

it's a dandy article touches all the bases including a reminder of how Mitt Bibi's reputed 'good friend' will be visiting Israel this later in the week
interesting that a bombing from 18 years ago would be used as a comparison though because in more recent history AQ has not done anything like that........oh wait

(58,724 posts)The good news is that the number killed was relatively small. Hopefully the rumors floating around of a larger scale attack at the Olympics will turn out to be nothing (or will be thwarted).
Whoever is behind this attack seems to want to get the message across that Israelis are not safe when traveling overseas.
