By lunchtime on Sunday, more than 70 rockets and mortars had landed in Israel from Gaza within 24 hours, leaving six Palestinians killed and eight Israelis injured.
At a cabinet meeting on Sunday morning, Mr Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, said: "The world needs to understand that Israel will not sit idly by in the face of attempts to attack us. We are prepared to intensify the response."
One unnamed senior Israeli government official, said: "A ground incursion is certainly not out of the question although we hope it won't come to that."
The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) has confirmed that it is expecting, at the very least, instruction to intensify its campaign of air strikes on Hamas targets.

(6,068 posts)and neither does Israel, particularly. The current ruckus started when an Israeli soldier was badly injured trying to close down a tunnel, and additionally when a Palestinian boy was killed by Israeli tank fire.
Hamas had to respond in order to keep up appearances, after all, you can't let them kill a kid without some retribution. And equally, Israel then had to respond so as to protect their own "honour".
Duelling aristocrats in centuries past had a custom called "deloping", which essentially meant that one or both of the duellers would deliberately fire their pistol to miss. They didn't want to kill anyone, they only wanted to uphold their honour against some perceived slight, and staging a duel was the only accepted way to do it.
Both sides want to exact some punishment against the other, but without inflaming the situation into all-out war. So they will go through the motions, exchange some rhetoric, and then we will wait for the next war.

"suspicious locations" apparently include "the body of a young child"; I can see the logic, he'd probably just grow up to throw rocks in a few years, they'd have to shoot him later anyway.
But, I heard some IOF forces were mildy inconvenienced in the process. There may be some of these poor, defenseless heros treated for shock or some other debilitating impact of being forced to shoot a child. I agree with my anticipation of your reaction(*)--these are the real victims here and need more attention. Probably just some Pallywood invention anyway; the acting classes are paying off, the rage and grief looks almost believable in their obviously anti-semetic conspiracy to defame the Israeli military. What valid right could they possibly have to be angered when Israel was just exercising its singularly-allocated right of 'defending itself'?
(*)--if that whole screed wasn't just a mess of dark sarcasm, I'd scold myself for such dubious construction of that phrase..

Was the child killed in the crossfire of violence between the two sides?
Or did the Israelis just kill a child for kicks?
That certainly seems like your perception of reality.
Maybe actually read the news story without your bias glasses and see what you can find out.

The point being, Hamas needs no reason to go to war with anyone.
They're psychopaths.

(3,093 posts)that is awful, unsurpising, and actually completely irrelevant to the discussion at hand. Please stay on-topic. Instead of advancing your propaganda agenda through the usual barrage of non-sequitors, please go back and re-read shaay's post about Hamas "having to respond to keep up appearances". Now that you know about the event in question, you might not be so confused about the greater meaning of it. Then again, I imagine that quite a lot of things about this world confuse you if it isn't explained through the hasbara prism, so having this extra knowledge might not be of help. But for me, please try anyway.

(35,970 posts)It fell quickly as there was no Pallywood slant to run with, and an angle hadn't been developed where Palestinians could be blamed for killing him. It's understandable that it passed unnoticed by some
