A senior Hamas leader called on Tuesday for a third intifada and the resumption of suicide bombings against Israel.
The demand came in response to the governments recent decision to approve the construction of hundreds of housing units in east Jerusalem and Maaleh Adumim.
Ahmed Halabiyeh, director of the Jerusalem Department in Hamas, said that armed Palestinian groups, including Hamas, should initiate a confrontation with Israel over its plans to build new apartments in Jerusalem and its suburbs.
The Palestinians, he added, should resort to various methods of resistance, first and foremost martyrdom operations in the heart of Israel.

Because both sides are equal, you know.

(3,425 posts)can you explain how it can belong to Israel when it is in occupied territory. It is quite telling that the UN, China, Russia, the European Union and most sane members of this country condemn this expansion. Of course it is terrible for the Israeli citizens to live under the threat of an intifada, there will be so many innocent casualties and it would quite rightly be condemned by the world community.
However, what I do not understand is what steps would people recommend that Palestinians take to stop the wholesale takeover of their country. The present course that the Israeli's are on will only lead to more trouble.

Terror leaders love to send people to their death, but never want to do it themselves. Typical cowardice.

(3,093 posts)I actually meant that in a somewhat serious manner--but of course, still somewhat ironically as well. The guy is described as a "senior commander" of the "Jerusalem Branch", but how accurate is that description when there is virtually no prior mention of the guy? Surely a senior commander of his very important stature will have racked up a mention or two before the present? I would imagine that DEBKA or MEMRI, CAMERA, or whatever other acronyms that ex-mossad chumps are spreading their disinformation under these days would have a thick file on a senior official--but alas, the face in the mirror and this story alone.
At any rate, I've seen this call repeated from a number of far less prominent(*) and far less zionist sources, so I'm not really sure what I'm even going on about here. What is interesting is that a confluence of diverse forces from a number of the different resistance formations are getting together on this one. I can't tell if its unruly commanders splintering off the old groups, or just committees getting together to coordinate efforts between them. Different posters on the ground have different opinions on that (shocking?!), so it's hard to tell precisely what's going on. Something is going on, however.
(*)--I regularly read a number of interesting message boards that probably landed me on some watch list, assuming my passport stamps didn't already accomplish this
