Masked Jewish settlers burst into a school Wednesday, vandalizing cars and torching olive trees during a rampage that forced schoolchildren to remain locked in classrooms to keep safe, residents of a Palestinian village in the West Bank said.
Fawzi Ali, a teacher at the school in Jaloud, said the settlers entered the village and began throwing stones. He said teachers locked classroom doors to protect the school's 175 students as the doors were pelted.
The settlers smashed the windshields of several cars outside, and then lit a fire that burned through a nearby olive grove.
Jaloud is located next to a hard-line Jewish settlement outpost whose residents have clashed with local Palestinians in the past.

(3,093 posts)It was more of an incursion, clearly; a "rampage" is something that only uncivilized barbarian Arabs do, most likely. I noticed that the Israeli military spokesbot strongly objected to the action because it "deviate security forces' attention from their main mission combating terror". It's nice of the guy to draw such a firm distinction between attacking a school and "terror".

(5,397 posts)To be honest I don't feel the need to comment on posts like this one, not merely because I'm unable to defend these settlers' actions but because I wouldn't have a reason to. This is a report of an obviously illegal, disgusting display of violence spawned from racism and hate. It shows the very worst side of Israel, and perverts the ideals of Zionism as understood by any left-leaning, peaceful Zionist.
Don't assume that silence implies tacit support, as delrem seems to. More likely many seem no point in responding to a post where no debate exists. We all agree that this was awful. What's to discuss?
I'd like to point out that israeli spokespeople and the IDF all also oppose this and that four suspects are in custody thus far. Hopefully they'll be found guilty and prosecuted harshly.
