The technological revolution represents the most significant change of our lifetime. The Internet has changed everything: our behavior, our ethics, our economy and even our sex lives. But it is politics, not the music industry, where the most profound changes have taken place. Political participation today starts on the Internet and only later moves to the street, workplaces and polling booths.
Israels social justice movement the largest mass protest the country has ever seen was organized on Facebook. Social media changed the Palestinian national struggle forever: it brought together displaced communities and shed light on grassroots struggles. If it wasnt for social media, few would have learned of places like Nabi Saleh and Bilin. The mainstream media never took interest in Palestinian grassroots leaders only when they were labeled terrorists did they become worthy of attention but social media has changed that too.
As journalists, we are experiencing firsthand how the Internet has altered our profession, putting some of us out of work while creating new opportunities for others, ones that we couldnt have imagined a decade ago. A project like +972 Magazine could not have existed without the platforms provided by WordPress and Google, Facebook and Twitter.

(30,099 posts)I think they made a great choice with Snowden.

(58,724 posts)Like in 2006 when the Time Magazine Person of the Year was "You"
Just pick an actual person.
Jefferson23
(30,099 posts)I am speaking of the Settler.
I don't recall Time's You, pick. I'll have to Google it.

(58,724 posts)Just name a person.
Pick someone who represents the settlers if you want to go in that direction.

972 has quite the bedfellows.

(30,099 posts)Have you ever heard of Daniel Ellsberg?
Snowden made the right call when he fled the U.S.
By Daniel Ellsberg,
Daniel Ellsberg is the author of Secrets: A Memoir of Vietnam and the Pentagon Papers. He was charged in 1971 under the Espionage Act as well as for theft and conspiracy for copying the Pentagon Papers. The trial was dismissed in 1973 after evidence of government misconduct, including illegal wiretapping, was introduced in court.
Many people compare Edward Snowden to me unfavorably for leaving the country and seeking asylum, rather than facing trial as I did. I dont agree. The country I stayed in was a different America, a long time ago.

(30,099 posts)I doubt you even know what has transpired with Edward Snowden, and I doubt
you have any clue why Ellsberg has been at the forefront defending him.
You found an OP that you took a quick glance at from GD (June 2013) and posted it here
thinking you were going to score some points against 972...wrong.

(35,961 posts)As someone who's not too keen on Snowden, I'd like to know what point, if any, yr trying to make and the logic, if any, behind it.
Or is this yet another game of Six Degrees of Separation?
Jefferson23
(30,099 posts)she even read the DU OP she posted. Sid posted what he did about StormFront because
he felt the OP was making a false equivalence and they were, in my opinion. But regardless, shira
had no idea why Sid did that. Not that he is a fan of Snowden, but you know what I mean.

(35,961 posts)It's almost as though there's some Frequent Flier scheme that awards points on how often someone can drop the name Stormfront into their posts. I'd be thinking that smearing people who admire Snowden by trying to link them to Stormfront might be an exercise fraught with peril...
If I wasn't caught up in trying to bring my crappy laptop back to life, I might have engaged Shira's fondness for playing Six Degrees of Separation and started doing it with some positions she embraces and people she admires

(30,099 posts)They eat vanilla ice cream at StormFront! Strange bedfellows..oooh.
Violet_Crumble
(35,961 posts)I like Pearl Jam, so if some of them like Pearl Jam, well that means Pearl Jam and myself could be equated with Stormfront. It's really quite scary once you start thinking about it

(35,961 posts)I heard they sucked pretty hard with their live shows. When a great band calls it a day, they should try and resist the urge to reform and relive the glory days. And now Kim Deal's gone, they'd be even worse. Poor Israel having to put up with them...
Some stuff from their heyday....
