Israeli forces raid Hebron village, attempt to demolish local oven

http://www.maannews.net/eng/ViewDetails.aspx?ID=662665

HEBRON (Ma'an) -- Israeli troops stormed a village south of Hebron and assaulted three Palestinians on Saturday evening, locals said.

During the raid, Israeli forces tried to demolish the village's traditional oven, which produces bread for more than 50 residents.

---

Hathalin explained that a group of soldiers escorted a settler from the nearby Israeli settlement of Karmel and tried to destroy the traditional "tabun" oven in use by local villagers.

The attack came after settlers in the nearby houses claimed that smoke emanating from the oven disturbed them.

What a load of shit. Poor illegal settlers don't like Palestinians living near their illegal settlement, don't like that they have an oven, have their armed military escort try and destroy oven.

Just another day with the apartheid picnic.

In many cases, with the Israeli army being complicit, at best.

Also worth noting that there has been a demolition order for this stove in place for several years.

An article from Ha'aretz in 2011 provides some good background information:

West Bank settlement is outdoing its neighboring Bedouin village

Dozens of people in Umm al-Khayr live in grinding poverty, next to a few hundred people to whom Israel has generously supplied, in the heart of the desert, the amenities for leading a comfortable modern life.

And here is an affidavit from a woman in the Hathalin family who was attacked by settlers several years ago (2009)
