Israeli bulldozers destroy mosque, medical center in East Jerusalem

JERUSALEM (Ma'an)

Israeli bulldozers demolished a Palestinian-owned building that housed a mosque, a medical center, and apartments in East Jerusalem early Wednesday, witnesses told Ma'an.

Locals said Israeli police and special forces stormed Khallat al-Ein square in the al-Tur neighborhood east of the Old City of Jerusalem and surrounded a building owned by Ghadir Abu Ajram Abu Ghaliya.

Officers then evacuated the two-story building and neutralized gas and water networks before bulldozers began the demolition.

Abu Ghaliya told Ma'an that his building was demolished "without prior notice" from Israeli authorities.

There's an actual global civil war raging between Salafists and Shiites. They don't recognize the other as Muslims and try to kill each other at every turn. It has come that far that muslims outside of the Middle-East lie about their denomination out of fear of getting straight-up murdered by other Muslims in "their" community.

One part of the Salafist denomination is the belief that Muslims shouldn't worship idols, and in their eyes this includes mosques. Salafi militants try to demolish mosques at every turn and happily upload videos of it on the Internet.

Shiites are particularly concerned about the war in Syria, because Syria contains many historic mosques and the Salafists might be able to destroy them in the chaos.

Israel destroys a mosque = "Israel is fascist and racist."
Salafists destroy a mosque = "Death to the guys we already hate to death."

3. Obama admin refuses to call Jerusalem Israel's capital
Wed Mar 26, 2014, 10:43 AM
Mar 2014

Thursday, March 29, 2012 |

A long-standing point of contention between Israel and the US (one of the few that exists) is the fact that while Congress and the vast majority of American citizens recognize Jerusalem as the capital of the Jewish state, the White House refuses to do so.

The Obama Administration's position on Jerusalem took center stage this week when a State Department spokeswoman refused during a press briefing to accept that the city, even the non-contested and Jewish dominated western half, is the capital of Israel.

Early in the week, the Washington Free Beacon political blog discovered that a State Department communication posted online had identified "Jerusalem" and "Israel" as separate Middle East entities. Following that revelation, the State Department quickly altered the communique to list only cities and not countries.

At Wednesday's weekly press briefing, a reporter asked State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland to comment on the issue, to which she replied, "Our policy with regard to Jerusalem is that it has to be solved through negotiations. We are not going to prejudge the outcome of those negotiations, including the final status of Jerusalem. ...That's all I have to say...”

But the reporter in question was not satisfied, and pressed Nuland, stating, "That seems to suggest that you do not regard Jerusalem as the capital of Israel." Nuland still was not budging, so the reporter tried to "give her an out" by asking, "Is it your position that all of Jerusalem is a final-status issue, or do you think -- or is it just East Jerusalem?"

Nuland still refused to acknowledge that even the western side of Jerusalem, which has been under Israeli sovereignty since 1948, is the legitimate seat of Israel's government. The Weekly Standard transcribed the entire exchange at the press briefing.

The United States continues to maintain its embassy in Tel Aviv, despite a 1995 act of Congress that stipulated the American mission was to be moved to Jerusalem no later than 1999. Successive American presidents have consistently invoked "national security" powers to avoid implementing the Jerusalem Embassy Act.

It just marvels me that the extremist muslims are in such a constant state of "pissed".
Pissed at the other denomination for building/destroying mosques.
Pissed at moderate muslims for not being sufficient oppressive enough.
Pissed at the non-muslims in their communities for living their superficial, shallow (read: non-muslim) lives.
Pissed at the West for causing bloodshed.
Pissed at the West for meddling with the internal affairs of a muslim country.
Pissed at the West for not causing bloodshed.
Pissed at the West for not meddling with the internal affairs of a muslim country.

Their situation strongly reminds me of the catholic-protestant-wars of the 1600s.

How about they find a way to control their wackos before complaining about ours?

Mar 2014

The photograph revealed that the school, or madrassa, was located where the Western Wall Plaza is now. But the remains of the building were dismantled by the Israel Antiquities Authority, which did not realize its importance.

The school, known as the Afdiliyeh, was named after el-Malik al-Afdil, one of the sons of Saladin, who conquered Jerusalem in 1187. According to a 15th-century document, al-Afdil built the school in Jerusalem's Mughrabi quarter.

Eventually it became known as the Sheikh Eid Mosque, after a leader of the North African community that inhabited the quarter. The sheikh was buried there in the 17th century, after which the mosque became a place of pilgrimage.

A few days after the Six-Day War, Israel destroyed the Mughrabi quarter to build the Western Wall Plaza. The destruction included the mosque - one of only three or four remaining from the time of Saladin.

By Jeff Halper

Jeff Halper is the Director of the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions.

The "Judaization" of Jerusalem and the West Bank continues apace, despite (and in fact because of) the so-called "Kerry initiative."

Over the past few months the Israeli government has intensified its campaign of demolitions in Jerusalem, in the strategic E1 area between Jerusalem and the Maale Adumim settlement, in the South Hebron Hills and in the Jordan Valley.

According to UN figures, 231 Palestinians have been displaced from their homes in the first two months of 2014, During that short time 132 structures were demolished, a pace outstripping that of 2013, when 1,103 structures were demolished and 663 people displaced, itself the highest level in the past five years. Besides homes, "structures" refers as well to livestock pens, fences, water reservoirs and even public buildings such as schools, all vital to the livelihood and communal life of Palestinians.

Overall, the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions estimates that since 1967 some 29,000 Palestinian homes and livelihood structures have been demolished in the Occupied Territories -- and that doesn't include the ongoing demolition of thousands of other homes of Palestinian and Bedouin citizens of Israel.

Very nasty attack on yet another Israeli Leftist ...backed up by yet another obscure Right wing blogger ...who I have never heard of ....probably American ??

Quote shira : " Just another garden variety, dime-a-dozen bigot "

So lets set the record straight ....

Jeff Halper is a peace activist and a long-time human rights advocate , he was nominated, together with the Palestinian intellectual/activist Ghassan Andoni, for the Nobel Peace Prize by the American Friends Service Committee for his work "to liberate both the Palestinian and the Israeli people from the yoke of structural violence" and "to build equality between their people by recognizing and celebrating their common humanity".

He spent ten years as a community volunteer in Jerusalem’s inner city neighborhoods, and was a founder of Ohel - a social protest movement of working-class Mizrahi Jews. He served as the Chairman of the Israeli Association for Ethiopian Jews, having been active in the 1960s in championing the rights of Ethiopian Jews and in researching the history of the Jewish community in Ethiopia.

He co-founded the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions (ICAHD) in 1997 to resist the Israeli government's policy of demolishing Palestinian homes in the Occupied Territories.
This is there web site : http://www.icahd.org/

....because what he has to say is as pertinent to you as it is to shira .....

example .....

We are different peoples. Israel can no more define Diaspora Jewish life than you can define Israel. Rather than knee-jerk defense of an imaginary place, you need to develop a respect for Israel and Israeli voices, a respect that will come only when you start regarding Israel as a real country. And you have to get a life of your own. You have to develop alternative Diaspora Jewish cultures and identities. Ironically, after all I have said, the Israeli government will resist that, for it uses you as agents to support its policies, often extreme right-wing and militaristic policies that contradict your very values of cultural pluralism and human rights. Remember: Israel does what it does in your name. Unless you take an independent position, you are complicit.

The following article was written by Israeli/American peace activist Jeff Halper for the Australian Jewish News. The paper refused to run the piece, despite spending weeks attacking Halper and his supporters in its pages.

The type of dynamics Halper describes in the essay, where organized Australian Jewry comes to the "rescue" of an idealized Israel - an "Israel" which has nothing to do with Israel as a real country, doesn't seem unique to Australia. It's certainly the case in the US, and I suspect in other countries as well, that the Jewish diaspora latches on to an imaginary Israel for its own needs, even while Israel puts Jewish diaspora to its own unholy uses.

Racheli Gai.

Jeff Halper: An unhelpful discourse on Israel

The uproar in the organized Jewish community over the prospect of my speaking in Australia is truly startling to an Israeli like me. Granted, I am very critical of Israel's policies of Occupation and doubt whether a two-state solution is still possible given the extent of Israel's settlements, but this hardly warrants the kind of demonization I received in the pages of The AJN. Opinions similar to mine are readily available in the mainstream Israeli media. Indeed, I myself write frequently for the Israeli press and appear regularly on Israeli TV and radio.

No, Mr. Halper, whoever incites against Israel does not want peace.

One of his claims, only one, is worthy of a response. “I want peace,” he claims. Whoever incites against the State of Israel does not want peace. He wants destruction. But even more than that, Halper is representing an odd species of people who earn their living from the struggle. Not only that they live very well from it (“My salary comes from raising donations...”), but they do everything they can to ensure that there will be no peace. Because among Muslims and Arabs there are many, even if it is not a majority, who want peace and are willing to make some painful concessions. Even the Saudi Initiative, which has become Arab, is a step in the right direction, assuming that you take the right of return out of it, of course.

And what do people like Halper do? They make those who refuse stronger. They preach to them not to make any compromises. They make the struggle hotter. They make Hamas stronger. According to Halper, the Arab Initiative is another plot. A plea for Israel to join the tyrants’ camp. This preaching of Halper’s, I will say it again, is documented and recorded.

His denial is a lie. Halper is not convincing the Arabs to insist on peace. It’s the other way around. He convinces them to insist on refusing. Between the Palestinian Authority of Abu-Mazen and Hamas of Mashaal and Haniya, Halper is decisively determining that he is on Hamas’ side.

Even Hamas have not justified the rockets by claiming that it is against any peace plan, which settles the Palestinians in Bantustans, but this is what Halper claims. More Hamas than Hamas. Hamas says that its goal is to destroy Israel and harm the Jews. Halper, of course, does not listen.

Some members of the “Peace camp” – not all of them, of course – will be remembered eternally in disgrace as those who convinced the Arab side to stick with refusal. The Palestinians in the refugee camps will continue to rot. Jews will continue to be murdered. This is happening also because of those who provoke strife from the likes of Jeff Halper. History will never forgive them.
